Republishing and Refreshing Your Lenses
I have been trying an experiment on Squidoo for the last two months to see how much republishing lenses made a difference on lensrank. What I have been doing is refreshing and republishing my top two tier lenses every day. What I noticed is that while my lenses do not go up in rank too much, they also do not go down in rank as much as they do if I leave them alone.
With the drain on my time, I have found that I normally do not republish a lens more than once every two or three months, and that affects my lensrank quite a bit. So while I cannot continue to republish every lens daily, (because it just takes way too long), I am going to keep better track of the lenses in the top two tiers and republish them more often. Just like everyone else, I can use the money that the lensrank payout will give me. In the meantime, I will work on increasing the revenues that I can get without such minute attention.

Hey, Paula. I have been doing the same thing, trying to get a "feel" for what affects lensrank. Of course, I only have 9 published lenses in total, so it is much easier for me than you. I have actually been a little amazed at the results. If I do a "quality" update (add a new module with content, for example) to a particular lens, it will move up radically in lensrank the day after or the day after that. If I then let it sit, without editing and republishing) it will immediately start falling. Within a couple of days, it may move down as much as 20K+ in lensranks. I have to admit I am more than a little confused and starting to wonder if I can ever keep lenses (when I have a lot) from dropping into never-never land. It's a dilemma, for sure.
I think part of the issue is not to rely on lensrank for your income. And there are other things that affect lensrank. The best way to keep a lens high is to get great traffic, and clickouts, but still it is an interesting experiment.
I know that clickouts and views add a lot to lensrank as well as ratings and, of course, comments work to keep a lens "green". As you know (hehe) from other sources, I am desperately trying to learn some (all, many, ???) of the ways to earn income while having fun. Not getting far yet, but I'm a determined kind of soul. I'll make it! With the help of great people like you, of course. :-)
Have you considered using a macro to do that work for you. I typically use imacro a firefox add-on that does this tedious job for you. I try to stick a republishing frequency of once in every 10 days.
That's a great idea, but I do not know how to do this. I will have to look into it. It would save me a lot of time.
I'll try to create a blog post on that one and post a link soon. Its a great time saver..my 50 + lenses get refreshed in about 10 minutes, all on autopilot
